About Comb Ridge
Designated a National Natural Landmark in 1976 and the only known location of tritylodont fossils, Comb Ridge stands as as 120 mile long monocline, extending from the Manti-Lasal National Forest to the San Juan River before curving to the southwest towards Kayenta, AZ.
On the high side of the ridge along Hwy 95 you can find the famous Posey's Trail.
Both Highway 95 and Hwy 163 run through carved-out segments of the ridge.
To the west of Comb Ridge lies Comb Wash, near which you can find Hotel Rock, the Arch Canyon trailhead a stalagmite cave, and the bottom of the old Hwy 95 dugway which still gives access from South Cottonwood to Comb Wash. The old dugway is part of one of the San Juan ATV Safari trails.
To the east runs Butler Wash, famous for its many petroglyph panels and ruins. Butler Wash is also home to a few dinosaur footprints. Both Comb and Butler washes drain into the San Juan River.
