About Horsecollar Ruin

The structure in the Horsecollar Ruin Site are extremely well preserved, due to the location and the relatively small number of visitors that have made their way down to the site.

These ruins date back aproximately 700 years, and are of the more modern ruins built by the ancestral Puebloans who once made this are their home.

The ruins get their name from the unusual shape of the doorways in two of the structures.

Trail Info

Length: 0.8 from Sipapu, about 3 mile round trip from road

The trail to Horsecollar Ruin is not maintained, and may be somewhat difficult to follow in places, especially after a rain storm. There is potential bush-whacking involved shortly after Sipapu, with the canyon widening out further along.  Follow the winding canyon until the canyon widens significantly, there on the right, high on the cliffs you'll see the ruins. There isn't any one path to reach the ruins, but once scaled, the view from the ledge is excellent. Straight to the east at the top of the canyon wall the overlook can be seen, next to an unidentified arch that has formed from the cliff.
